Heirloom Tomatoes

We raise our heirloom tomatoes ourselves as young plants in Illmitz, Burgenland, Austria. The range includes tried-and-tested classics and special varieties with different colours, fruit shapes and flavours – from small cocktail tomatoes to large beefsteak tomatoes and traditional plum tomatoes.

If you want to buy heirloom tomato plants, you are often deliberately looking for more variety beyond the usual standard range. Flavour, special fruit shapes and unusual colours are what make many of these varieties interesting for tomato lovers and hobby gardeners.

Heirloom tomatoes with special flavour

Heirloom tomatoes can differ markedly in aroma, texture and use. Some varieties taste sweet and fruity, others rich, spicy or pleasantly tart.

Our range includes well-known varieties such as Berner Rose, Cherokee Purple, Costoluto Genovese, Cuor di Bue, San Marzano and Black Krim. We also grow other old and unusual varieties that are rarely found as young plants in ordinary shops.

Colours and shapes beyond the standard

Tomatoes don't have to be just round and red. Old varieties show a wide range of colours, sizes and shapes. These include dark tomatoes, ribbed fruit, oxheart tomatoes, elongated plum tomatoes and small cocktail and pear-shaped tomatoes.

Ordering heirloom tomatoes as plants

Pre-orders for our tomato plants open in early January. Plants ship in spring, once the young plants are strong enough and temperatures allow safe transport.

Our variety pages stay online outside the selling season. This way you can find out about heirloom tomatoes early and choose your favourites for the coming growing season.
