Black Krim – special features of the variety
Black Krim is a traditional Russian variety, internationally known mostly as Black Krim or Noire de Crimée. Its large fruit ripens dark red to brown-red and often carries green-brown shoulders. Warmth and direct sun can intensify the dark colouring.
Fruit, flavour and use
The flat-round beefsteak tomatoes usually weigh around 225 to 450 grams. Their juicy flesh has a full-bodied, spicy and lightly smoky aroma with balanced sweetness and acidity. The variety is especially good fresh for salad, caprese, burgers and sandwiches.
Growing in a bed or pot
The indeterminate plant reaches around 150 to 180 centimetres and needs a sturdy support. One or two main shoots make care easier; support heavy fruit clusters additionally. A warm, sunny and, where possible, rain-sheltered spot supports ripening. In a pot, use at least 25 litres of substrate.
A tomato young plant, raised by us
We raise the Black Krim tomato plant ourselves at our family business in Illmitz. After shipping, the young plant should first stand in a bright, sheltered spot and be gradually acclimatised to direct sun and wind. It only goes outdoors permanently once no more late frosts are expected.
