Tshernij Prinz – special features of the variety
Tshernij Prinz is a semi-determinate beefsteak tomato from ReinSaat's variety-preservation breeding. The name means "Black Prince". The variety produces brown-red, flat-round fruit and, for a larger beefsteak tomato, ripens comparatively early.
Fruit, flavour and use
The multi-chambered fruit weighs around 200 to 300 grams. Its flesh is dense and at the same time very juicy. Flavour-wise, Tshernij Prinz is full-bodied, fruity and well-balanced sweet-tart. The tomato suits salad, caprese, burgers and sandwiches fresh, but also aromatic sauce.
Growing in a bed or pot
Thanks to its semi-determinate growth, the plant stays more compact than many indeterminate beefsteak tomatoes. Given the heavy fruit, it still needs a sturdy support. Prune only moderately and secure fruiting trusses if needed. In a pot, use at least 25 litres of soil and water evenly.
A tomato young plant, raised by us
We raise the Tshernij Prinz tomato plant ourselves at our family business in Illmitz. After shipping, the young plant should first stand in a bright, sheltered spot and be gradually acclimatised to direct sun and wind. It only goes outdoors permanently once no more late frosts are expected.
