Ordering & Online Shop
How can I order from Tschida Tschili?
You can order our products directly through our online shop. Add the items you want to your basket, then follow the steps at checkout. There you can enter your delivery address and choose from the available payment and shipping options.
Can I order food and plants together?
In principle, different products can be ordered together in the shop. However, since young plants are shipped seasonally and under special conditions, plant shipping can differ from the shipping of our food products.
If an order contains both plants and other products, we can ship everything together with the plants. In that case, you may have to wait a little longer for the products in the combined delivery.
If you'd like to receive products straight away, it's best to place two separate orders.
Can I change my order afterwards?
If your order hasn't been processed or shipped yet, please contact us as soon as possible. We'll then check whether a change is still possible.
However, we can't guarantee a subsequent change in every case.
Where can I see if a product is available?
Current availability is shown directly on the relevant product page. Seasonal products such as chilli and tomato plants may remain visible outside their selling period, even if they can't currently be ordered.
Shipping & Delivery
Where does Tschida Tschili deliver to?
Our current delivery countries and shipping options are shown to you at checkout.
How much are the shipping costs?
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on your order and delivery address, and shown to you before you complete your order.
How long does shipping take?
Delivery time depends on the type of product, when you order and your delivery address. Shelf-stable food items are shipped independently of the seasonal plant delivery.
Special conditions for plant sales
Plant shipping begins uniformly from mid-April. Due to technical limits of our IT infrastructure, the standard delivery time shown only applies from mid-April onwards. This restriction only applies until shipping starts and only applies to plants.
Where can I find information about my delivery?
You'll receive a confirmation after shipping. As soon as your parcel has been sent, you'll receive the relevant shipping information at the email address given with your order.
Chilli Sauces, Spices & Food
Where do the chillies for your products come from?
We grow the chillies for our products ourselves on our chilli farm in Illmitz, Burgenland. Wherever possible, everything comes directly from us. That's also why we grow our own plants and follow the chillies all the way through to harvest.
How hot are your products?
Heat level varies noticeably depending on the product and the chilli variety used. You'll find information on heat and character on the relevant product pages.
Since perception of heat is different for everyone, the stated heat rating is mainly meant as a guide.
Which products are suitable for beginners?
If you don't have much experience with hot products, we recommend starting with milder sauces, relishes, chutneys or spices.
On the product pages you can compare the heat rating and work your way up to hotter products step by step.
How do I store chilli sauces and other products?
You'll find the exact storage instructions on the relevant packaging or product labelling.
After opening, special storage conditions may apply depending on the product. The instructions on the relevant product always take priority.
Where can I find ingredients and allergens?
Ingredients and any allergens requiring labelling can be found on the relevant product page and on the product packaging.

Can I have a gift box sent directly to the recipient?

Since we send our invoices electronically anyway, no further payment or personal information is included in the parcel.
Chilli & Tomato Plants
Pre-order, plant shipping and shipping start
When does pre-order for chilli and tomato plants start?
Pre-order for the coming plant season starts at the beginning of January.
Since many special and rare varieties are only available in limited numbers, it can be worth choosing popular varieties early.
When are the plants shipped?
Plants are shipped in spring, as soon as the young plants are strong enough and temperatures allow safe transport. This is usually around mid-April, depending on the weather. We keep you up to date with newsletters and order updates.
Because of this, there can be a longer gap between your pre-order and actual delivery.
Why can I order plants as early as winter?
Early pre-order lets you reserve the varieties you want for the coming season. Due to high demand, pre-ordering is possible from January onwards.
The plants are only shipped once they're sufficiently developed and weather conditions allow safe shipping.
Why do sold-out plant varieties stay visible in the shop?
Our variety pages stay online even outside the selling season.
This lets you keep browsing information on individual chilli and tomato varieties and get informed about our range ahead of the next pre-order launch.
Origin and variety recommendations
Do you grow your own chilli and tomato plants?
Yes. Unlike many trading businesses, we raise our own young plants right here in Illmitz, Burgenland. We choose our varieties carefully and follow the seed personally all the way through to shipping.
Our range includes well-known classics as well as numerous rare and unusual chilli and tomato varieties.
Which chilli plant is suitable for beginners?
Beginners often do well with robust, comparatively easy-going varieties like Jalapeño, Santa Fe Grande, Habanero or other early-ripening Capsicum annuum varieties.
Which variety suits you best also depends on your location, space and desired heat level.
Which tomato plant is suitable for a balcony or terrace?
Compact, bushy or naturally small-growing varieties are particularly well suited to balconies and terraces.
In our Balcony Tomatoes collection you'll find plants specifically suited to pots, containers and smaller growing areas. These varieties are especially well suited to flats and balconies.
Information on growing and location
Can I grow chilli and tomato plants in a pot?
Yes. Many chilli and tomato varieties do very well grown in pots and containers.
What matters is a sufficiently large container of at least 8 litres, ideally 10 litres, a sunny spot, a good water supply and regular feeding. Pay particular attention to adequate feeding during the season for container-grown plants. Both chilli and tomato plants are heavy feeders and need plenty of nutrients.
When can chilli and tomato plants go outside?
Chilli and tomato plants love warmth and are sensitive to frost. They should only be permanently placed outside or planted out once no critical night temperatures are expected. As a rule that means at least 5°C at night, to leave enough buffer for cold snaps.
Even though the plants are hardened off, young plants should still be gradually acclimatised to local conditions, direct sun and outdoor conditions before their final planting out.
Especially after shipping, the plants have been through a lot of stress, so a few quiet days before repotting are recommended.
Do chilli plants need a lot of sun?
Chilli plants generally prefer warm, sunny spots. A sheltered position particularly helps heat-loving varieties with growth and fruit ripening.
In our experience, a wind-sheltered spot matters more than hours of sunshine. Strong wind can significantly hold back growth.
The exact requirements can vary by variety, though.
Do tomato plants need protection from rain?
Many tomato varieties benefit from a sunny, airy spot that's as sheltered as possible from prolonged leaf wetness.
A greenhouse isn't strictly necessary for this, but a sheltered spot can still offer advantages.
How often do I need to water chilli and tomato plants?
This depends heavily on weather, container size, location and growth stage.
The soil should neither dry out completely nor stay constantly wet. Potted plants in particular often need noticeably more frequent watering on warm summer days than plants grown in open ground.
A plant will show a lack of water through drooping leaves, though this in itself also causes stress and should be avoided.
On very hot days, plants may also droop their leaves as a form of protection, which doesn't automatically mean they need watering.
It's best to check soil moisture around 5cm below the surface. Often the top layer is dry while there's still more than enough water underneath.
Do chilli and tomato plants need feeding?
Plants need enough nutrients for strong growth and good fruit development.
How much feed is needed depends among other things on the substrate, pot size, plant size and the fertiliser used. Both over-feeding and significant under-feeding should be avoided.
The ideal feed is tomato fertiliser, which also works well for chilli plants. It's available at any hardware store.
Do I need to pinch out side shoots on tomatoes?
That depends on the type of tomato.
It's best to check the description for the specific variety you have.
Can I overwinter chilli plants?
Many chilli species are naturally perennial and can be overwintered under suitable conditions.
Based on our own trials, we've calculated a success rate of around 30%.
In our view, the effort isn't worth it, and the growing season in Central Europe is long enough for growing them as an annual.
What do I do if my plant looks limp after shipping?
Shipping can be stressful for young plants. First place the plant in a sheltered, bright spot, check the moisture of the substrate and water if needed.
Plants usually recover within 2-3 days, even after a difficult journey.
It shouldn't immediately be exposed for hours to intense midday sun or strong temperature swings.
If a plant has genuinely arrived damaged, please contact us right away.
