Moms Paste – special features of the variety
Moms Paste is a historic paste tomato whose seed has been passed down over several generations. The plant grows indeterminate and produces large red fruit with an elongated, tapering shape. Its dense structure sets it apart from especially juicy salad and beefsteak tomatoes.
Fruit, flavour and use
The fruit usually reaches around 250 to 350 grams and has lots of firm, aromatic flesh. That means less water needs to be reduced while cooking. Moms Paste is especially good for sauce, passata, soups and preserving, but also for oven dishes or thick fresh slices.
Growing in a bed or pot
The vigorous cordon tomato ripens rather late and benefits from a full-sun, warm and rain-sheltered spot. Train to one or two main shoots and tie in regularly. Support heavy fruit additionally. For a pot, plan for at least 25 litres, more is better.
A tomato young plant, raised by us
We raise the Moms Paste tomato plant ourselves at our family business in Illmitz. After shipping, the young plant should first stand in a bright, sheltered spot and be gradually acclimatised to direct sun and wind. It only goes outdoors permanently once no more late frosts are expected.
