Gogoshari Striped – special features of the variety
Gogoshari Striped comes from an Eastern European variety tradition, passed down through seed savers. Characteristic are red-and-yellow striped, often three-lobed fruit. Its interior is partly hollow and contains comparatively few seeds. This structure is exactly what sets the variety apart from juicy classic salad tomatoes.
Fruit, flavour and use
The fruit weighs around 110 to 170 grams and tastes mildly aromatic and well-balanced. Its main kitchen strength is stuffing: the cavity takes rice, vegetable, cheese or meat fillings well. Gogoshari Striped can also be used fresh in salad and a light lunch, or sliced for warm dishes.
Growing in a bed or pot
The variety grows indeterminate and needs a sturdy support. A warm, sunny and, where possible, rain-sheltered spot supports ripening. Train to one or two main shoots, tie in regularly, and support heavy fruit if needed. For pot growing, plan for at least 20 to 25 litres of substrate.
A tomato young plant, raised by us
We raise the Gogoshari Striped tomato plant ourselves at our family business in Illmitz. After shipping, the young plant should first stand in a bright, sheltered spot and be gradually acclimatised to direct sun and wind. It only goes outdoors permanently once no more late frosts are expected.
