Feuerwerk – character and use
Feuerwerk is an open-pollinated beefsteak tomato of Russian origin. Its red fruit carries golden-yellow stripes and fine speckles, the intensity of which varies from fruit to fruit. The striking pattern and aromatic flesh make the variety interesting for lovers of large, unusual tomatoes.
Fruit, flavour and harvest
The fruit often reaches 200 to 500 grams and is round to flat-round, sometimes lightly ribbed. Feuerwerk tastes sweet-fruity, spicy and aromatic. It's especially good for thick slices, salad, caprese and sandwiches. Very ripe fruit can also be processed into a fruity sauce.
Position and care
The tall cordon tomato needs a sunny, warm and rain-sheltered spot. Given its rather thin skin, even water supply is important: strong swings between dry spells and heavy watering increase the risk of splitting. Train the plant to one or two shoots, tie in regularly, and support heavy fruit additionally. In a pot, plan for at least 25 litres of soil.
A tomato young plant, raised by us
We raise the Feuerwerk tomato plant ourselves at our family business in Illmitz. You'll get a vigorous young plant to start your tomato season. After shipping, it should first stand in a bright, sheltered spot and be gradually acclimatised to direct sun and outdoor conditions. It's only planted out permanently once no more late frosts are expected.
