White Oxheart – special features of the variety
White Oxheart is an open-pollinated oxheart tomato with cream-white to pale yellow fruit. The variety grows indeterminate with slender foliage on a cordon tomato and reaches around 180 to 200 centimetres. Its large, heart-shaped fruit makes it a striking alternative to red oxheart tomatoes.
Fruit, flavour and use
Depending on seed line and growing conditions, the fruit usually weighs around 170 to 450 grams. Fully ripe, the soft, juicy flesh develops a mild, sweetly aromatic and fruity flavour with little acidity. White Oxheart suits salad and caprese fresh, on sandwiches, in salsa or in a pale tomato sauce.
Growing in a bed or pot
The oxheart tomato prefers a full-sun, warm and, where possible, rain-sheltered spot. We recommend one or two main shoots, regular pruning of side shoots and a sturdy support. Support heavy fruit clusters additionally if needed. In a pot, plan for at least 25 litres of substrate and water evenly so the large fruit ripens as consistently as possible.
A tomato young plant, raised by us
We raise the White Oxheart tomato plant ourselves at our family business in Illmitz. After shipping, the young plant should first stand in a bright, sheltered spot and be gradually acclimatised to direct sun and wind. It only goes outdoors permanently once no more late frosts are expected.
