Capsicum chinense

Capsicum chinense is known for a rich range of unusual, hot varieties – from the classic habanero to internationally known record-setting varieties. We raise our plants of this species ourselves as young plants in Illmitz, Burgenland, Austria.

Capsicum chinense varieties in our range

Alongside the classic habanero varieties Red, Chocolate and Peruvian White, we grow well-known types such as the Caribbean Scotch Bonnet, the Trinidad Scorpion with its scorpion-like tail, the Indian Bhut Jolokia and the Peruvian Aji Charapita. Record-setting varieties such as the Carolina Reaper and Chocolate Reaper round off the range.

Fruity aroma with strong heat

Typical of Capsicum chinense is the combination of a fruity-floral aroma with noticeable to extreme heat. You will find the classic habanero varieties collected in our habanero plant category, and the hottest members of this species in our super hot chilli plants (heat level 10+++).

How it differs from other chilli species

Unlike the versatile Capsicum annuum or Capsicum pubescens, Capsicum chinense stands out for particularly intense aromas and a wide range of heat. Many varieties of this species are part of our rare chilli plants.
