Frankenstein BBG Red is a modern superhot rarity with a feature especially sought after in BBG lines: the bleeding effect. Here, the red pigmentation of the ripe fruit can extend right into the calyx. Combined with the heavily wrinkled surface, this creates a very distinctive look. You'll find more extraordinary varieties among our rare chilli plants.
How hot is Frankenstein BBG Red?
We rate the variety at heat 10+++, clearly classifying it as a superhot. For this specific line, however, we're not aware of any reliable standardised SHU measurement. Rather than adopting a seemingly precise figure, we stick to the confirmed classification: extremely hot, and suitable only for very experienced chilli fans.
What does BBG mean in chillies?
BBG is used for various modern crosses to describe the characteristic "bubblegum" or bleeding type. The striking feature isn't just the fruit colour itself, but the possible colour transition into the calyx. In Frankenstein BBG Red, this collector's trait meets red, heavily textured superhot fruit. As is typical with such crosses, the specific expression can vary from fruit to fruit.
Using it with very small doses
With a superhot like Frankenstein BBG Red, small amounts go a long way. Suitable uses include ferments, chilli oil, powder or concentrated spice blends. When cutting and processing, we recommend gloves, clean equipment and particular care. If you're looking for more plants at the top end of the heat scale, you'll find them among our extremely hot chilli plants.
Growing Frankenstein BBG Red
As a Capsicum chinense, the variety needs warmth, plenty of sun and a long season. A greenhouse or very sheltered spot is ideal. In a pot, we recommend at least 8 litres, ideally 10 litres; with 15–20 litres, the plant gets an especially generous root run. A well-known superhot classic for comparison is also the Carolina Reaper.
