The Scotch Bonnet Yellow plant is one of the best-known chillies of the Caribbean. Its name comes from the typical, heavily wrinkled fruit shape, which recalls a Scottish bonnet. Botanically, it's very close to habaneros, which is why we also list it among our habanero plants.
How hot is Scotch Bonnet?
Scotch Bonnet is typically around 100,000–350,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). That makes it very hot, but it's valued above all for its tropical, fruity aroma.
What does Scotch Bonnet Yellow suit in the kitchen?
The yellow fruit pairs wonderfully with jerk marinades, Caribbean stews, fruity chilli sauces and chutneys. The variety gets especially exciting combined with mango, pineapple or citrus fruit, since the fruity chilli aroma really comes through.
Scotch Bonnet or habanero?
Both belong to Capsicum chinense and are similar in heat and fruitiness. Scotch Bonnet, though, has its characteristic bonnet shape and a strong Caribbean tradition. For a direct comparison, try our Habanero Red.
