T-Rex Mustard is a striking superhot from the Douglah × Bhutlah cross. Instead of ripening classic red, it develops mustard-green to yellowish-brown fruit with a heavily wrinkled, irregular surface. That gives it a clear place among our special chilli rarities.
How hot is T-Rex Mustard?
Red Dragon Seeds states roughly 1,200,000–1,400,000 SHU for T-Rex Mustard. We treat this range transparently as a breeder claim and rate the variety at heat 10+++. That places it clearly in the superhot range, to be used only in very small amounts.
What does "Mustard" mean in a chilli?
With varieties like this, "Mustard" describes the unusual ripening colour. Rather than turning a bright red, the fruit shows mustard-green, olive-yellow to yellowish-brown tones at full ripeness. Combined with the coarse, heavily wrinkled surface, T-Rex Mustard has a particularly striking look.
T-Rex Mustard in the kitchen
Given the extreme heat, the tiniest amounts go a long way. The variety suits strongly dosed ferments, extremely hot sauces, chilli oil or powder. When cutting and processing, we recommend gloves and particular care with skin and eye contact.
Growing a long-season superhot
As a Capsicum chinense, T-Rex Mustard needs plenty of warmth, sun and time. A greenhouse or very sheltered spot is ideal in our climate. In a pot, we recommend at least 8 litres, ideally 10 litres; 15–20 litres is ideal. You'll find more varieties at the top end of the heat scale among our extremely hot chilli plants. A well-known superhot for comparison is also the Carolina Reaper.
