What makes it special?
7Pot Jonah is a classic red superhot from the 7 Pot family. The heavily wrinkled fruit combines extreme heat with a fruity Capsicum chinense aroma and is an exciting alternative to Carolina Reaper or Bhut Jolokia.
We recommend this variety to experienced chilli fans who want to grow an original Trinidad superhot with vigorous growth and striking red fruit themselves.
Flavour & Use
7Pot Jonah tastes fruity and lightly sweet before its very intense, long-lasting heat takes over. The variety is often placed at around 800,000 to 1,200,000 Scoville Heat Units.
The tiniest amounts are enough for very hot sauces, ferments, powder or spice blends. When processing, we recommend gloves and very careful handling of knives, boards and other equipment.
Fruit & Plant
The fruit is heavily wrinkled, irregular and usually roundish to lightly elongated. It ripens from green to a bold red and often reaches around 4–6 cm.
As a Capsicum chinense, 7Pot Jonah grows bushy, vigorous and well-branched. Depending on location, plant height usually sits around 80–120 cm. The variety needs a long, warm season to ripen reliably.
Growing & Care
We recommend a full-sun, warm and wind-sheltered spot. In a greenhouse or polytunnel, 7Pot Jonah makes especially good use of the long season.
For pot growing, we recommend at least 8 litres, ideally 10 litres; 15–20 litres is ideal if you have the space. Use a nutrient-rich, well-draining substrate, water evenly and avoid waterlogging. Feed regularly and moderately with tomato or vegetable fertiliser during growth and fruiting.
The plant is frost-sensitive but can be overwintered frost-free.

Bei 7Pot Jonah trifft diese enorme Schärfe auf die typische fruchtige Aromatik von Capsicum chinense und auf markant gefaltete rote Früchte.
Wie scharf ist 7Pot Jonah?
Für 7Pot Jonah werden häufig ungefähr 800.000–1.200.000 Scoville Heat Units genannt. Damit liegt die Sorte im Superhot-Bereich. Die tatsächliche Schärfe kann abhängig von Genetik, Reifegrad und Kulturbedingungen schwanken. Beim Verarbeiten reichen kleinste Mengen; Handschuhe und sauberes Arbeiten sind bei dieser Sorte sinnvoll.
7Pot Jonah oder Carolina Reaper?
Beide Sorten gehören zu Capsicum chinense und liefern extreme Schärfe, unterscheiden sich aber deutlich in Herkunft und Erscheinungsbild. Die Carolina Reaper ist vor allem als ehemaliger Weltrekordhalter bekannt. 7Pot Jonah steht dagegen für die klassische 7-Pot-Tradition aus Trinidad. Wer eine optisch noch ungewöhnlichere Variante sucht, kann mit 7Pot Bubblegum Yellow vergleichen.
Viel Wärme für eine lange Saison
Wie viele Superhots braucht 7Pot Jonah einen sehr warmen, sonnigen und geschützten Platz. Wir bevorzugen für solche spät reifenden Sorten Bedingungen, unter denen die Pflanze im Herbst möglichst lange weiterreifen kann. Im Topf lässt sie sich bei Bedarf leichter geschützt stellen.
