Green Pear – special features of the variety
Green Pear combines a small pear shape with a ripening colour that stays green. Ripe fruit becomes lighter and, depending on location, shows a yellow-green to lightly amber tone. It should also yield slightly to gentle pressure. This makes harvesting easier, even though the variety doesn't ripen classically red.
Fruit, flavour and use
The cocktail tomatoes usually weigh 20 to 30 grams and have a pleasantly firm texture. Their flavour is sweet-tart, spicy and fresh. They suit snacking, mixed salads, a light lunch, cheese boards and as a green garnish. Sliced open, the unusual colour really stands out.
Growing in a bed or pot
The plant grows indeterminate to around 180 to 220 centimetres. A sturdy support and regular tying in are therefore necessary. One or two main shoots keep growing manageable. Plant in a sunny, warm and, where possible, rain-sheltered spot; in a pot, use at least 20 litres of soil and avoid strong swings in soil moisture.
A tomato young plant, raised by us
We raise the Green Pear tomato plant ourselves at our family business in Illmitz. After shipping, the young plant should first stand in a bright, sheltered spot and be gradually acclimatised to direct sun and wind. It only goes outdoors permanently once no more late frosts are expected.
