Micro Tom Gold – special features of the variety
Micro Tom Gold is one of the especially small-staying micro-dwarf tomatoes. The determinate plant usually reaches only around 15 to 25 centimetres, yet still produces numerous small, golden-yellow to orange-yellow fruit. That makes it suitable for a sunny windowsill or very small balcony spaces.
Fruit, flavour and use
The round cherry tomatoes usually weigh around 10 to 15 grams. Fully ripe, they taste mildly sweet, juicy and pleasantly tomato-like. They suit snacking, salads, a light lunch and a yellow garnish. Harvest once the fruit is evenly golden-yellow.
Growing in a bed or pot
A pot from around three to five litres is enough; a little more soil volume makes watering easier in heat. Micro Tom Gold is not pruned, since the side shoots also carry flowers. Support is usually not needed. Place in a sunny spot, water evenly, and avoid waterlogging.
A tomato young plant, raised by us
We raise the Micro Tom Gold tomato plant ourselves at our family business in Illmitz. After shipping, the young plant should first stand in a bright, sheltered spot and be gradually acclimatised to direct sun and wind. It only goes outdoors permanently once no more late frosts are expected.
