Patio & Balcony Tomatoes

We raise our balcony tomatoes ourselves as young plants in Illmitz, Burgenland, Austria. The selected varieties are especially suited to growing in pots, on a balcony or patio, or anywhere there is only limited space for large tomato plants.

If you want to buy patio and balcony tomato plants, you will find different growth habits – from compact bush tomatoes to particularly small-growing micro-dwarf varieties. Despite their small size, many of these plants can produce plenty of aromatic fruit.

Small-growing tomato plants for limited space

Not every tomato plant has to grow two metres tall. Small-growing varieties are especially interesting if you only have a balcony, a patio or a small growing area.

Some plants stay very compact by nature and need little space. Others grow bushy or are particularly suited to larger pots and containers. This makes it possible to grow an interesting selection of different tomatoes even on small areas.

Micro-dwarf tomatoes and compact varieties

Micro-dwarf tomatoes are among the smallest-growing tomato plants. Varieties such as Bonte Tigret Micro Dwarf, Bunny Kisses, Candy Berry Micro Dwarf and Micro Tom Gold are excellent for anyone looking for the most compact plants possible.

Tiny Tim is also one of our compact classics. Tomfall Hanging is especially suited to hanging baskets and balcony planters, while Gelbe Johannisbeere, despite its loose growth, can also be grown very well in containers.

Growing patio and balcony tomatoes in pots

For growing in pots, container size, position and regular care matter as much as the variety. Tomatoes prefer a sunny, warm spot and need enough water and nutrients during the growing and fruiting phase.

Compact tomato varieties are not only interesting for classic balconies. They also suit terraces, raised beds and small gardens when space is limited or when several different varieties are to be grown in a small area.

Ordering patio and balcony tomatoes as plants

Pre-orders for our tomato plants open in early January. Plants ship in spring, once the young plants are strong enough and temperatures allow safe transport.
