Tomfall Hanging – special features of the variety
Tomfall Hanging is a compact trailing tomato bred by ReinSaat. The determinate plant forms trailing shoots and stays around 30 to 50 centimetres tall. That makes it well suited to hanging baskets, window boxes and elevated pots, from which the shoots can grow freely downward.
Fruit, flavour and use
Numerous small, round and red cherry tomatoes ripen on the trailing shoots. The fruit, weighing around 10 to 15 grams, tastes well-balanced, aromatic and mildly sweet. It suits snacking, salads, a light lunch and a red garnish.
Growing in a bed or pot
Tomfall Hanging isn't pruned, since the side shoots also carry flowers. No support is needed; the hanging basket itself must be securely mounted given the weight of soil, water and fruit. A sunny, warm and wind-sheltered spot is favourable. In containers from eight to twelve litres, water evenly, since hanging baskets dry out quickly in heat.
A tomato young plant, raised by us
We raise the Tomfall Hanging tomato plant ourselves at our family business in Illmitz. After shipping, the young plant should first stand in a bright, sheltered spot and be gradually acclimatised to direct sun and wind. It only goes outdoors permanently once no more late frosts are expected.
