The Thunder Mountain Longhorn chilli plant is known above all for its spectacularly long fruit. The thin, often twisted pods can reach around 30 cm or more and ripen to a bright red.
Where does Thunder Mountain Longhorn come from?
The variety comes from Guizhou in China. Despite the "Thai" in its current product title, Thunder Mountain Longhorn is botanically and historically a Chinese Capsicum annuum variety.
Why is it so well suited to drying?
The fruit is very long and thin-walled. That means it loses moisture comparatively quickly, making it excellent for whole dried chillies, flakes or powder. Fresh, it works especially well in wok dishes and chilli oil.
