The Santa Fe Grande chilli plant is a versatile Capsicum annuum variety for anyone looking for aromatic, but not extreme, heat. Especially striking is the colour change of its thick-fleshed fruit, from pale yellow through orange to red.
How hot is Santa Fe Grande?
We rate Santa Fe Grande at around 3,000–5,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). That makes it mild to piquant and very versatile to use.
Santa Fe Grande in the kitchen
Thanks to its thick fruit wall, Santa Fe Grande is excellent for pickling, stuffing and grilling. Sliced into rings, it also suits sandwiches, burgers and relishes. Depending on the flavour you want, you can harvest the fruit while still pale, or let it ripen to orange or red.
Santa Fe Grande from our growing
We also use Santa Fe Grande for our Gurkerlfee and as part of our Blend chilli powder. You'll find more varieties for growing yourself among our chilli plants.
