Purple Bumblebee – special features of the variety
Purple Bumblebee belongs to the striped Artisan tomato series. Its round fruit ripens dark red to purple and keeps its striking, metallic green stripes. The pattern becomes especially high-contrast at full ripeness, making the variety a striking part of colourful tomato platters.
Fruit, flavour and use
The cherry tomatoes usually weigh around 20 to 30 grams and are roughly two to three centimetres in size. Their flavour is sweet, fruity and lightly spicy, with balanced acidity. They suit snacking, salads, a light lunch, or as a dark contrast in caprese and garnishes.
Growing in a bed or pot
Purple Bumblebee grows indeterminate and needs a sturdy support. One or two main shoots make tying in and harvesting easier. Plant in a sunny, warm and, where possible, sheltered spot. In a pot, use at least 15 to 20 litres of soil and water evenly so the fruit ripens without strong swings in moisture.
A tomato young plant, raised by us
We raise the Purple Bumblebee tomato plant ourselves at our family business in Illmitz. After shipping, the young plant should first stand in a bright, sheltered spot and be gradually acclimatised to direct sun and wind. It only goes outdoors permanently once no more late frosts are expected.
