Capsicum baccatum

Capsicum baccatum is a South American chilli species that stands out from other species with its fruity, often citrusy aromas. We raise our plants of this species ourselves as young plants in Illmitz, Burgenland, Austria.

This species includes the lemony, fruity Lemon Drop chilli, the eye-catching Brazilian Starfish, the striped Sugar Rush Stripey, and Zebrange and Aji Confusion. These varieties combine noticeable heat with the pronounced fruity note that is typical of Capsicum baccatum.

Aromatic, not just hot

If you value a special, fruity aroma as well as heat, Capsicum baccatum is the place to look. Many of these varieties fall within the heat range of our medium-hot chilli plants (heat level 4-7) and are also part of our rare chilli plants.

How it differs from other chilli species

Unlike the fruity, hot Capsicum chinense or the versatile Capsicum annuum, Capsicum baccatum is distinguished by its characteristic citrus note.
