The NuMex Pumpkin Spice jalapeño plant was developed at New Mexico State University and released in 2015. It belongs to a series of coloured jalapeños and ripens from green to a bold pumpkin orange.
How hot is NuMex Pumpkin Spice?
NMSU states around 22,000–25,000 SHU for the variety, depending on the publication. That makes Pumpkin Spice noticeably hotter than many common jalapeños, while keeping its typical jalapeño character.
Harvest green, or let it ripen orange?
Both are possible. Harvested green, the fruit feels especially fresh and spicy. Fully ripe orange, it becomes rounder in flavour and visually extraordinary. For a direct comparison, see our classic Jalapeño chilli plant too.
