Indigo Blue Beauty – special features of the variety
Indigo Blue Beauty was developed by Brad Gates of Wild Boar Farms from Beauty King and an indigo line. Characteristic is its two-toned skin: against a pink-red base colour, dark blue-violet shoulders form in sun-exposed spots. The intensity varies with light and location and is part of the variety's natural appearance.
Fruit, flavour and use
The flat-round to lightly ribbed beefsteak tomatoes usually weigh around 120 to 250 grams. Fully ripe, they taste sweet, fruity and well-balanced. Thick slices suit salad, caprese, burgers and sandwiches. Even sliced open, the dark skin colouring stays an attractive contrast to the pink-red interior.
Growing in a bed or pot
As an indeterminate cordon tomato, Indigo Blue Beauty needs a sturdy support. One or two main shoots make care easier; support heavy fruit clusters additionally. The spot should be full-sun, warm and, where possible, rain-sheltered. In a pot, use at least 25 litres of substrate and water evenly.
A tomato young plant, raised by us
We raise the Indigo Blue Beauty tomato plant ourselves at our family business in Illmitz. After shipping, the young plant should first stand in a bright, sheltered spot and be gradually acclimatised to direct sun and wind. It only goes outdoors permanently once no more late frosts are expected.
