The Chocolate Beauty sweet pepper plant is a sweet Capsicum annuum variety with no heat at all. Its special appeal lies in the thick-fleshed fruit, which ripens from green to a deep chocolate brown. You'll find more varieties from our own growing among our chilli plants.
Is Chocolate Beauty hot?
No. Chocolate Beauty sits at 0 Scoville Heat Units and is a classic sweet pepper. That also makes it suitable for anyone who wants aromatic Capsicum fruit without any heat. At 0 SHU, it belongs in the sweet pepper and mild chilli plants category.
Brown bell pepper with compact growth
Chocolate Beauty produces blocky, thick-fleshed fruit of about 7–10 cm that ripens to a rich chocolate brown with some violet-brown nuances. At usually 50–70 cm, the plant stays comparatively compact, which makes it well suited to larger pots, patios, raised beds or greenhouses.
Ideal for stuffing, roasting and grilling
Thanks to its thick flesh, Chocolate Beauty is especially versatile: fresh, stuffed, grilled or oven-roasted. Raw, it works well in salads and on snack platters, as well as in roasted vegetables or pickled. For the full brown colour, let the fruit fully ripen on the plant.
Growing Chocolate Beauty
We recommend a sunny, warm and wind-sheltered spot. For especially sweet, fully brown fruit, a long, warm ripening phase pays off. Plan for at least 8, ideally 10 litres of pot volume, or 15–20 litres if you have the space. Water evenly, avoid waterlogging and feed the plant regularly with tomato or vegetable fertiliser during growth and fruiting.
Chocolate Beauty in our Heiße Schokolade
We grow Chocolate Beauty ourselves in Illmitz and use the fruit in our Heiße Schokolade hot sauce. There, the sweet, dark pepper meets Habanero Chocolate – a deliberate interplay of mild pepper aroma, dark fruit colour and clear habanero heat.
