Dark Galaxy – character and use
Dark Galaxy was bred at Wild Boar Farms and carries an especially variable pattern. Red base colour, golden speckles and dark anthocyanin patches can make each fruit look a little different. The darkest colouring forms in spots with direct sun exposure. For judging ripeness, the red base colour matters at least as much as the dark colouring.
Fruit, flavour and harvest
At usually 50 to 100 grams, Dark Galaxy sits between a cocktail and a classic salad tomato. Its flesh is red, its flavour sweet-fruity and well-balanced. The variety suits fresh slices, salads and light-lunch platters. Its high-contrast skin stays especially decorative when sliced.
Position and care
The indeterminate plant grows around 150 to 200 centimetres and needs a reliable support. It can be trained to one or two shoots. A full-sun spot encourages the dark pigmentation; warmth and rain protection support healthy fruit. In a pot, use at least 20 to 25 litres of soil and keep moisture as constant as possible.
A tomato young plant, raised by us
We raise the Dark Galaxy tomato plant ourselves at our family business in Illmitz. You'll get a vigorous young plant to start your tomato season. After shipping, it should first stand in a bright, sheltered spot and be gradually acclimatised to direct sun and outdoor conditions. It's only planted out permanently once no more late frosts are expected.
