The 7Pot Bubblegum Yellow chilli plant is a variety for anyone who wants more than maximum heat from a superhot. Its most striking feature is the so-called bleeding calyx effect: on typical ripe fruit, the yellow colour can extend beyond the fruit body into the calyx and partly the stem. It's exactly this detail that makes the 7 Pot Bubblegum line so unmistakable among collectors.
How hot is 7Pot Bubblegum Yellow?
The variety is usually stated at around 850,000–1,000,000 Scoville Heat Units, clearly placing it in the superhot range. The actual heat can vary by line, ripeness and growing conditions. Behind the massive heat is a fruity, lightly sweet note. If you're after comparable extreme varieties, you'll find them among our super hot chilli plants (heat level 10+++).
What makes the bleeding calyx effect special?
With many chillies, the calyx stays green even on ripe fruit. With 7Pot Bubblegum Yellow, by contrast, the yellow ripening colour can extend into the calyx. How pronounced this is can vary from fruit to fruit – which is exactly what makes the variety so exciting to grow. Another classic 7 Pot variety in our range is 7Pot Jonah.
Growing a late-ripening superhot chilli
7Pot Bubblegum Yellow needs warmth, sun and time. We therefore recommend a sheltered spot, and in our climate a greenhouse or polytunnel where possible. A sufficiently large pot helps the plant grow vigorously and bring many fruit to full ripeness. If you're collecting extraordinary varieties, you'll find more unusual plants among our rare chilli plants.
